Vice President Nalumango Visits Kabwe To Assess Cholera Outbreak

Vice President Mutale Nalumango is today expected in Kabwe to assess the cholera outbreak in the district, which has seen 68 suspected cases reported, with 60 originating from a single school.

Central Province Minister Hon. Mwabashike Nkulukusa confirmed that the Vice President will arrive in Kabwe at approximately 10:00 hours and will visit various cholera treatment centers to engage with medical staff. The visit aims to evaluate the need for intensified cholera prevention measures.

“The government is deeply concerned about the cholera situation in Kabwe and remains committed to containing the outbreak,” said Mr. Nkulukusa.

Currently, 24 patients remain admitted at Magandyama Health Post, but all are reported to be in stable condition. No cholera-related deaths have been recorded in the district.

The outbreak was first detected when a teacher from David Ramushu School in Mine Compound exhibited symptoms on March 26 at Kasanda Health Centre. A 13-year-old pupil later tested positive for the disease, leading to the identification of additional cases within the school.

Vice President Nalumango is expected to return to Lusaka later today after completing her assessment.
