Dagoreti North MP Beatrice Elachi has lost her son, Elvis Murakana, days after he was involved in an accident

While this is a tragic and painful moment for her family, the reaction on X (formerly Twitter) has been anything but sympathetic.

Kenyans online, especially Gen Z, have shown little remorse, with many openly celebrating the loss. This harsh reaction stems from Elachi’s past remarks and perceived stance against the youth, particularly during recent political debates where she sided against Gen Z activists.

Many see this as “karma in action,” with posts flooding timelines mocking her grief rather than offering condolences.

Despite the online backlash, President William Ruto has sent his condolences, saying, “May God grant Mheshimiwa Beatrice Elachi and the family strength to bear with the loss of their dear son, Elvis Murakana.”

Others have also urged for compassion, reminding Kenyans that grief is universal and that political differences should not erase humanity.

May his soul rest in peace.
