Senior Headman Susumambo in Hamaundu Chiefdom, Pemba district, Abel Mweetwa, has reportedly been stabbed to death by unknown assailants.
The 89-year-old traditional leader was killed on Thursday evening.
Susumambo Vice Village Headman, Mulumbu Halukuba, who relayed the development to Byta FM News, noted that Mweetwa was stabbed four times while in bed with his wife.
Halukuba described the death of the headman as saddening and stated that the reason for the brutal murder remains unknown.
He urged community members to desist from taking the law into their own hands and to value dialogue in resolving disputes.
A press query has been sent to the Southern Province Police Command, who are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
