Mbala College of Nursing and Midwifery has broken its silence on the allegations surrounding the death of its 27-year-old student, Maria Bowa, who committed suicide at her sister’s residence in Nakonde on Tuesday.
The college has distanced itself from claims that the school informed the deceased she would not be allowed to sit for her final exams in June, due to unpaid fees.
However, the institution did not clarify whether the student had passed her exams or if she had been notified of any deferral.
Speaking during her burial on Friday morning in Nakonde, the school representative Chester Kafwanka, who is also the college’s Senior Tutor, stated that the institution was unaware of the reasons behind Maria’s decision to end her life.
Mr Kafwanka revealed that she was among the students who had fully settled their fees and had access to her exam results.
He also mentioned that Maria had completed her mock exams, which were recently conducted, but did not disclose whether she had passed or not.
