First Lady Mutinta Hichilema is set to hand over the newly built Mutinta Hichilema Centre for Autism and Children with Special Needs to the Ministry of Education today in Luansase Ward, Kabwe District, Central Province.
Speaking ahead of the event, Central Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe described the facility as the first of its kind in Zambia, emphasizing its role as a national school dedicated to accommodating children with special needs.
Dr. Mwanakampwe highlighted the First Lady’s commitment to supporting children with disabilities, noting that the initiative aims to provide an enabling environment for their education and development.
“Many children with special needs are often hidden due to societal stigma, but this centre will offer them the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Every child, regardless of ability, has a right to education,” he said.
The centre, which began construction in 2022, will also include a future clinic with medical staff to address the health needs of the children. The First Lady’s dedication to such initiatives underscores her passion for empowering vulnerable groups and breaking down societal barriers.
The facility’s completion marks a significant milestone in advancing inclusive education in Zambia.
